Therapy With Karen Feeney
Karen received her Master’s Degree from Simmons School of Social Work and has a post Master’s certificate in Children and Adolescent psychotherapy.
She has had extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings including mental health clinics, schools, Head Start programs and in pediatricians Primary Care Physicians’ offices. She primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness to treat anxiety, depression, and panic disorders as well as situational challenges that may include family transitions, peer issues, or job/school difficulties.
Additionally, Karen has specialized training in the treatments of: obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma and Tic and Tourette Disorders.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Treatment
Karen provides OCD treatment to children, adolescents and adults using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a form of cognitive behavioral (CBT) which according to the International OCD Foundation, has the strongest evidence supporting its use in the treatment of OCD.
Karen has completed:
- Pediatric Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) thru the International OCD Foundation
- Intensive Workshop in Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, thru Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, University of Pennsylvania
She is currently enrolled in:
- EX/RP Certification Program thru Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, University of Pennsylvania
Tourette Syndrome & Tic Disorders Treatment
Comprehensive behavioral intervention for tics (CBIT) is a type of behavioral therapy that can help people with tics and tic disorders, including Tourette Syndrome, manage their tics better and improve their quality of life.
Karen is trained in CBIT thru the Tourette Association of America and is able to provide this treatment to children, adolescents and adults.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is the most well-supported and effective treatment for children (ages 3-18) impacted by trauma. This program is structured and short-term.
Karen received her basic and advanced training through the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Baystate Health Department of Psychiatry.
